ARTIST STATEMENT

“Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.”
1 Corinthians 10:24

In order to capture a few of the numbers and varied scenarios involving the Pursuit of Equality in the United States of America during my lifetime, I created these graphite drawings to serve as a meaningful historical record, for my family, specifically for my beloved grandchildren,

Courtney, Ryan, and Rachel,
and for posterity.

I used Scriptures as titles of each illustration to further compliment the story I was attempting to tell.

As an afterthought and because I am privileged to be a part of progress, a hint of the color red completes each drawing, symbolizing the blood that’s been shed in the pursuit of equality over the years, but also the courage, passion, and joy which will hopefully be brought into a future of healing for each of us, our loved ones, and our world as a whole.
